Today we drove from Roma to Taurasi in Campania to visit Salvatore Molettieri to try his upcoming releases of Aglianico, Greco di Tufo and Fiano di Avellino. Whilst Molettieri has had considerable success in the last decade he does not take it for granted, and today Salvatore and his three sons are working harder than ever to stay ahead of the game.
After an extensive tour of the cellars, Salvatore drove us round to all of his different vineyard sites to show how different soil, aspect and clonal selection can all produce different styles of Aglianico.
Instead of showing us the wines in the cellar, we tried over a dozen upcoming releases of a home cooked five course meal. Finishing with two year old pecorino cheese and a bottle of the Molietieri Taurasi Riserva 1999. Both the meal and wines were incredible.
